Patan Durbar Square - Thomas L. Kelly

Patan Museum at Patan Durbar Square. Patan, Nepal.

The rebuilt east wing on the left, with a façade that is in balance with the adjacent traditional wings. The façade borrows the style of the Rana Maharajas who ruled Nepal between 1846-1951. The new bay windows allow light into the stairwells, while other windows were closed to limit light coming into the galleries or to be adapted as display areas. In the absence of preserved carved wooden columns, Hagmuller designed wood columns with steel brackets that reflected the traditional ones.
