The horse races are by age five years to stallion with the riders no older than 13 years of age when they "retire." Many of the riders wear vibrantly colored satin capes and matching suits to be recognized from a far distance. Most go bareback, though a few ride on light racing saddles. Many only wear socks to cut down on the weight of bulky boots and almost all have a dashur a crop to urge their horses on. They compete for 20 kilometers bareback horse race.
