Nepal Army continues to patrol and provide security against rising unrest in the Kathmandu Valley, despite of several rallies taking place, called by the Unified Communist Party Nepal (UCPN) over the controversial sacking of the Chief of Nepal Army staff, Rookmangud Katawal. The Government is trying to build concensus among political parties to remove Katawal. The Maoist Government of Nepal including the Defence Minister, Ram Bahadur Thapa (Maoist Party), have demanded the Chief of Army Staff to be sacked based on three counts:
1) For recruiting Nepalese Soldiers.
2) Disagreeing with the requested retirement of the eight Brigadier Generals of the Nepal Army.
3) The withdrawal of the Nepal Army from the recent National Games.
