KATHMANDU, NEPAL: Thousands of people attended a peace gathering organized at Basantapur, Kathmandu on Friday (May-7-2010)
All people want restoration of peace in the country but not conflict and strikes. Nepalese have urged the parties to forge consensus and draft the statute on time. And people from all walks of life including industrialists, businessmen, artistes, lawyers, journalists, doctors, teachers, students, human rights activists and ordinary people attended the meet.
48 organizations including Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industries (FNCCI), Nepal Chamber of Commerce, Professionals Alliance for Peace and Democracy (PAPAD) and Hotel Association of Nepal (HAN) among others jointly organized the peace meet.
Stating that people want peace, the Maoist vice chairman Dr. Baburam Bhattarai had assured Nepalese that the Maoists' stir would be largely peaceful, however, the incidents of violence are widespread after the fourth day of strike.
