Hands of a statue in Uku Bahal, a revered Newar monastery and Buddhist institution in Patan, exhibit the extraordinary quality of Newar metal craft, metal arts dated from the 7th century and still today some of the world’s fines lost wax casting and repousse is produced in Patan’s workshops. The creation of the statue involves the expertise of several craftsmaen who divide the tasks of creating the wax model, casting, chasing and gilding.
