While the monks congregate for a group meditation, their alms bowls are waiting to be used for the collection of alms. Alms bowls are never placed on the ground but in an elevated position. Since they receive the laypeople's daily offering of rice. they are objects that come into touch with the transmission of merit, Bun and Karma that is the essence of the relation between the monk and those who feed them.
