Thousands of pilgrims informally congregate around a humble peepal tree near the Balaji Temple in the heart of Tirumala. Here they can rest before going into the temple, purchase food at nearby shops, ask questions at information booth and even view video coverage of ceremonies going on inside the temple on closed circuit TV. Near this peepal tree, there is a large, open-air pavilion with water, bath and sleeping facilities where pilgrims can relax anytime, 24 hours a day, free of charge.
